Finally Planted the Barn

I had to hold on this project for quite a while as I needed to finish some parts to the barn before I planted it.

The wind vain is a small bit that was found at CSS09. It is a laser cut wood kit made of 5 individual parts. Smallest kit I ever built.

Also I added a plaster storm cellar entrance and windmill from Walthers.

I redid the road work with fine dirt I had sifted through a pantihose.

I also filled in with dirt and scenic materials to plant the barn. This was spritzed with water and then thinned white glue was soaked on

An overhead view gives you an idea of the nature of the corner. This is well above the viewing angle. I added a final coat of different colours of sifted dirt and rubbed it in with a brush. This adds colour and proper road texture where the ruts are etc..

From the viewing angle you can see how natural the corner is and how the dimensions are created using the backdrop and trees.

Great fun to see a project through and I am sure I will do more in the future but for now it is at a good state of completion.

Powder River Basin Railfan Trip

Wyoming is home to one of the most interesting railroad experiences I have ever had. Powder River Basin is the location of the Orin Sub which is a joint owned four track main running north south between Douglas and Gillette. Over 100 trains a day service the open pit coal mines. Names like Black Thunder and Antelope are but a few. UP enters and exits from the south and BNSF enters and exits from the north. Click to enlarge photos.
